Blog assignment 3: Nice Work

I've just finished reading Nice Work by David Lodge and I like here to reflect on one of the things that I fell is really interesting about the book.

It´s about Vic Wilcox and Dr Robyn Penrose, who get to be Vic´s "shadow" in a program created to let the industry people and the University people meet each other and share understanding about each others world.

I fell this could be something great to introduce to the educations at the swedish university to creat knowledge among the students, so they can learn about the real world out there instead of just reading about it in our course literature. To let the students get out in the real world for atleast 2 weeks and learn whats it all about.

Just like in the book, where Vic and Robyn at the end start to realize that they can use each others knowledge in there own work, maybe that could happend in sweden to.

The students start to understand whats it all about in the real world and people that makes the decitions about student education can understand how the lecturing should be composed so the student are prepare in the best possible way for the real world.

Story of stuff

Today I watched the video presentation named "The story of stuff" by Annie Leonard, the purpose of the video is to let us the consumers get an revelation that we can´t keep the same pace of our consumption, or else the world will get inhabitable for our children to live on.

It´s scary to hear that the US has 5 % of the earth´s population and uses 30 % of the whole worlds natural resources. More scary is that 99% of the stuff you and I buy today are garbage in 6 month.

But what can we do to not let the world be inhabitable for our children to live on? Many things, but keep buying useless stuff is not one of them! Recycling? Sure but today it´s not enough.

We have to let the government, not only here in Sweden but the governments and corporations in each and every country in the whole world get the same revelation as I did and what you get after watching the video by Annie. And then maybe we can do something before it´s all to late.

“Snooping Business”

Today in TIME magazine I read the article "Snooping Bosses" about how bosses are snooping around and got an constant eye on the staff members. With help by diffrent tools your boss can among other things see what diffrent pages you have visit, lisen to your phone calls under working hours etc.

I think that you shouldn´t do any personal things under working hours so when your at work, your time should be spent on work related things.

It´s a big problem for many companies that the employees does personal things under working hours and in those cases the bosses have diffrent tools to monitor the staff members to see that it´s only work the employees spend there time with.

After working hours the company have nothing to do with what I do under my free time. But on working hours?

I think it´s a good thing that the bosses have some small tools to use so the employees only work under working hours, but it can´t go to far so it interferes with people´s integrity. If the companies can separate work time with there staff members personal time it´s fine by me to do some snopping to increase efficiency around the workers.
